Asda has announced a major management reshuffle.
David Downie, 36, will move from retail md of Asda's northern division to become operations director. He will be replaced by general merchandise director Tony Page.
Page, 35, has been with Asda for eight years and has overseen the growth of the company's non-food, including the establishment of new pharmacy, optical, jewellery and photo divisions.
John Cleland, 36, will shift from retail md for Asda's eastern division to focus on operations for Wal-Mart's recent acquisition of Seiyu in Japan.
He will join a study team in Japan as part of Wal-Mart's investment in a three-year alliance with Seiyu and Sumitomo.
Philip Auld will replace Cleland. Auld has worked for B&Q for two years and is currently director of operations for its warehouse format.
Asda's COO Tony DeNunzio said: "These changes substantially strengthen our retail team. John's move to Japan demonstrates the accelerating contribution of Asda people to the growing success of Wal-Mart's international businesses."
