Responsibility targets set

Safeway has set itself corporate responsibility targets that range from training key staff in ethical trading to supporting suppliers. As it launched the initiative, Safeway pledged to observe the spirit as well as the letter of the suppliers' code of practice. And it said it would also incorporate a clause requiring its suppliers of processed commodity products to observe the core principles of the code. The targets also cover reducing the environmental impact of production and reducing the amount of chemicals in products, increasing the size of the compressed natural gas fleet and cutting packaging. {{NEWS }}
