Bestway held its annual Retailer Development Awards last week to recognise its independent retailers who had developed the most in the past year.

A total of 17 awards and £70,000 in prize money were presented to independent retailers across England, Wales and Scotland.

The top award and title of National Retailer of the Year went to Kashif Afza of Safebury's Store, Edgbaston, Birmingham. Afza collected the £10,000, the Bestway Trophy and certificate presented by Bestway chairman Sir Anwar Pervez.

Other winners included winner of the Bestway northern region Matthew Croft of Croft Stores, Northampton. The winner of the Bestway southern region was Kemal Yakula of Osman Stores, Tottenham, London.

The winner of the Best One Trophy was Paul Thompson, of Fourways, Leeds who won £3,000.
