Safeway reviewing post office role

Safeway is reviewing the future of its instore post offices and crêches as it modernises its 480-store estate. Communications director Kevin Hawkins said: "Like the other big multiples, we have not been adding post offices to stores for a long time because we are facing the same problems as Consignia with falling demand. "We are deciding if existing post offices and crêches are still viable in the context of the ongoing Fresh to Go reformats." Safeway has 27 post offices in store, which could be replaced with photo processing and dry cleaning concessions. Hawkins said: "We are considering each store on its merits. Some of the post offices have only fixed-term contracts." {{NEWS }}
