Sainsbury has acquired convenience store operator, SL Shaw, and the five stores are to be converted to the Sainsbury’s Local format.

SL Shaw’s turnover for the year ended 31 May 2004 was £11m and the company, based in the south east of England, has 227 staff members who will all be offered jobs with the new parent company, according to Sainsbury.

Jim McCarthy, managing director of convenience at Sainsbury said: “We are delighted that we have been able to acquire these five stores and bring the Sainsbury convenience shopping experience to more customers in the south east of England.

“These are quality stores in good locations and they fit perfectly with our commitment to grow sales in our convenience business by £400m by the end of 2007/8.”
