Sainsbury has signed up Blockbuster for in-store concessions as trials with Boots continue to bring "valuable learnings". The latest deal will introduce Blockbuster entertainment concessions at five Sainsbury supermarkets from summer. The concessions will be designed like Blockbuster high street stores, stocking rental DVD, VHS and games, with an emphasis on new releases and chart titles. They will also offer a limited range of confectionery and ex-rental titles, but will not sell new movies or games to avoid conflict with Sainsbury's main business. Customers will be able to take advantage of high street Blockbuster promotions, and to return rented movies to other selected local Blockbuster stores as well as the supermarket. Blockbuster vending machines will also be introduced on a trial basis to 15 Sainsbury's stores from May. And Sainsbury recently extended trials of Boots shop-within-a-shop to nine of its bigger supermarkets, withdrawing its own healthcare ranges to make way for 3,000 to 4,000 sq ft concessions. Trials started last October, and the concessions could eventually be rolled out to up to 100 larger Sainsbury stores. A Sainsbury's spokeswoman said: "We now have nine Boots concessions which are bringing valuable learnings which will be incorporated as the trials continue." {{NEWS }}
