Sainsbury has teamed up with the Learning and Skills Council to offer shoppers IT tuition during supermarket opening hours at in-store learning centres.

The £15m venture will provide about 15,000 hours of training per week to help shoppers gain qualifications at three new I.T.Now@Sainsbury’s learning centres.

Assistant MD of Sainsbury Sara Weller said: “When we tested the IT learning centre in Reading, over 1,000 people enrolled within the first six months taking advantage of 5,000 hours of training a week. We have no doubt that the three new centres will be equally as successful.”

The learning centres will be opened by March 2003, at one store in the West Midlands and two in London.
