Sainsbury is looking at taking the Homeport unattended home delivery system beyond London as it rolls out Sainsbury's to You across the country. Early indications from trials in Twickenham and the Thames Valley region are encouraging, said Homeport marketing director Mark Lunn who has also signed up another multiple to use the system. For a £1 charge, retailers deliver goods ordered online in boxes that can be secured to a locking device outside customers' properties. "Now Sainsbury only has to make one visit to a neighbourhood," said Lunn. "They can pick up yesterday's empty boxes at the end of the schedule." Previously, Sainsbury was making several visits a day to fit in with different two-hour delivery slots, facing the prospect of further journeys if customers were not at home. {{NEWS }}
