There is no such thing as a standard Sainsbury's Local, general manager Mark Rollmann told the audience at the Insight Research conference, The Future of Convenience'. Three distinct formats have emerged since the Local story began, he explained, with "distinct ranges, designs and merchandising". These are Grab and Go' for passing traffic to and from work and lunchtimes, with a focus on food consumed within 45 minutes; Top Up Stores' for residential areas, with a focus on dairy, bakery, fresh produce and ready meals; and finally a combination store. The chain is also working with suppliers to develop products specifically for the Local stores and investigating the possibility of using Locals as pick up points for e-sales. Growth would also be achieved through joint ventures. "We are continuously reviewing opportunities for partnership." {{NEWS }}
