Sainsbury's online home delivery website is up and running again but could have cost the supermarket chain more than £1m in lost sales.

The website was temporarily frozen on Tuesday afternoon due to a technical error, affecting an estimated 20,000 shoppers.

However, the service has now been restored and deliveries would resume from 8am tomorrow, a Sainsbury's spokeswoman told the Press Association.

Sainsbury's delivers to 90,000 customers a week, with an average spend of £80, so the error would have cost Sainsbury's more than £1m in lost sales, according to the Independent.
