Sainsbury's has met its target to help more than 100 unemployed people find jobs just three months after launching its special Supplier Trainee Partnerships programme.

The year-long paid contracts have been secured through a 66-strong network of Sainsbury's top construction, engineering, facilities management and retail suppliers. Projects the jobseekers are working on include new store development and redevelopment of existing sites.

Sainsbury's said it would continue to support the successful candidates, and offer regular assessments of their work. "By working with our suppliers we have made a real difference to the lives of more than 100 people," said Neil Sachdev, Sainsbury's property director. "The Partnerships are just one of the ways that Sainsbury's is helping the unemployed and getting the country back to work."
