Sainsbury's has put 36 Bells and Jacksons stores up for sale. The chain has decided the outlets, which account for a fifth of the two estates combined, are unsuitable for conversion to Sainsbury's Local format due to their size and development potential.
Sainsbury's acquired 119 Jacksons in 2004. It converted 79 to Sainsbury's at Jacksons and kept the rest as Jacksons. Fifty-nine Bells stores were acquired later the same year, with 31 renamed Sainsbury's at Bells.
