Sainsbury’s has agreed to publish its 'forest footprint' after committing to a new project to boost its green credentials.

The retailer has joined the Forest Footprint Disclosure (FFD) initiative to identify ways it can help reduce deforestation by cutting down on materials such as timber, biofuels, palm oil, beef and leather in its supply chain.

Sainsbury’s brand director Judith Batchelar said the project would help the retailer achieve its ‘source with integrity’ CSR target.

“Good forestry management and the prevention of deforestation is a key component of Sainsbury’s sourcing policies,” she said. “We have always managed Sainsbury’s forest footprint through working with suppliers and industry experts. We continually look for ways to improve how we respond to complex and evolving issues.”

The results will be published in January.
