Sainsbury's will spend £40m on farming and sustainability initiatives over the next three years through its dedicated development groups.

It has already spent £21m to date on these groups, which aim to build better relationships across the supply chain as well as drive quality, innovation and efficiency in farming. Sainsbury's committed the further £40m at its Farming for the Future event this Friday.

Chief executive Justin King said it was crucial to create and maintain resilient supply chains in the face of climate change and food security issues.
