Tesco has increased the number of local products it sells by 20% to 600 over the past year and has now opened it seventh and final English regional buying office, in Horsham, West Sussex.

It now planned to further expand the range, said Philippa Anderson, marketing manager for the new south east office. "Everyone in regional sourcing is passionate about their role and Tesco will become the supermarket for local produce," she said.

"Tesco has made a big commitment to work with small suppliers, giving them technical expertise for free," added south east senior buyer Quentin Sandell.
