Sainsbury says new bottle security caps which it recently finished fitting on spirits and Champagnes have helped boost sales. The supermarket chain has
spent the last few months installing the Alpha Easy-Bottle system, which has to be removed by staff and triggers an alarm if bottles are stolen.
Phil Wilson, Sainsbury's operations manager for security and cash loss, said the company was expecting to make a return on its investment. “Many Sainsbury outlets stocked their wines and spirits on shelves behind kiosks or customer services desks. While this may be secure, it is not customer-friendly,” he said.
“The Easy-Bottle encourages live display on open shelves that are accessible to customers. The results are higher sales.”
