Foodservice group Compass said weekly sales at its railway sites, where Marks and Spencer’s Simply Food format had replaced an existing convenience store jumped by an average of 400%.

M&S has extended its agreement with Compass to place Simply Food stores at railway stations. In total M&S plans to open 150 Simply Food units by 2006.

Compass posted a 12% rise in total turnover to £5.5m for the half year to March 31, whilst pre-tax profit before goodwill amortisation and exceptional items rose 4% to £269m.
