United Co-operatives has appointed Stuart Smart to the position of area manager, responsible for 13 large food stores in the north west. Smart
started his career with Asda as a trainee manager in 1976 but moved to Morrisons five years later before becoming a general store manager at the age of 23.
After 15 years with Morrisons, Smart moved back to Asda to manage some of the larger stores before moving into his new role at United Co-op.
Tim Hurrell, head of Food Group at United Co-op, said Smart would be involved in improving operations. Smart takes over from Steve Walker, who has moved to another area.
