Tesco felt the affects of last week’s bad weather as the roof of one of its stores collapsed under the weight of snow.

No one was injured in the incident on Friday afternoon, which involved a 322 sq ft section of roof at the Tesco Extra in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire.

The collapse happened at the furthest point from the main store entrance meaning shoppers had a lucky escape.

Emergency services attended and customers and staff were evacuated from the premises.

Commenting on the incident, a Tesco spokesperson said: “There was nobody in the immediate area. As a temporary precaution, we evacuated the store. We are working hard to fix the damaged section.”
