Sweet-toothed Somerfield customers with a taste for the finer things in life will have to forego their sugar fixes for a while, following the retailer's decision to ditch its own label premium desserts supplier.

A spokesman for Somerfield said that demand for its So Good dessert products, including its bestselling tarte au citron, had been "astronomically high". He added: "Our supplier was quite small and we did not wish to overstretch them."

Somerfield is looking for a new supplier and was "making good progress".

He added: "We are confident that we will be able to reintroduce these products very soon."
