Somerfield is to appeal against the Competition Commission’s decision that 12 of the 115 stores it acquired from Morrisons damage competition.

In a statement the retailer said that it would appeal against the rationale that, “there has been a substantial lessening of competition in all 12 of the affected locations, the direction to divest specific stores rather than any store within the relevant catchment and the restriction imposed on the category of retailers to whom the stores may be divested."
