Spar International has moved into the Chinese market via a licensing deal with Shangdong retailer Jia Jia Yue Supermarket Co.

The agreement will result in 15 new Interspar hypermarkets in the Shangdong province in eastern China over the nest three years.

International Spar MD Gordon Campbell said: “The opening of borders in China will result in the proliferation of multinational chains, so it is important that food retailers that have established themselves over the past 10 years are protected.

“Spar International has more than 70 years’ experience in retail operations and logistics internationally.

“In China, we will share this knowledge and best practice in international retailing and leverage the international brand.”
