Spar south west wholesaler Appleby Westward has urged suppliers to improve their levels of service.

Speaking at the Spar Wessex Guild convention in Edinburgh, md Ian Connell told delegates: “The majority of our suppliers offer us a superb service but some still need to go up a gear and move into the fast lane.

“Cornwall is not a backwater in a remote corner of England. We have a thriving business with our turnover projected to grow by more than 20%. That means once a week delivery
from many suppliers is an issue, along with service levels from some of less than 90% during the summer. It is simply not acceptable.”

He said Appleby Westward delivered retailer service levels of more than 97% on just a one day lead time, and he required suppliers to deliver more frequently and more effectively.
