Spar has launched a new initiative designed to encourage children to take up running and improve their fitness.
The Spar Sprints and Hurdles Initiative was launched by world record-holding athlete Colin Jackson CBE at the University of Wales Institute in Cardiff.
The initiative is intended to develop athletes by identifying those with talent and working with schools, clubs and the community to ensure they fulfil their sporting potential.
The scheme will be focused around 20 Spar Sprint Centres nationwide, creating links with local schools and clubs to develop training squads.
A spokeswoman said: “The centres aim to encourage thousands of young children to take up running.”
