Iceland’s store in Crawley provided a small but full range of fresh and chilled foods alongside its traditional freezer lines.
Staff impressed immediately and released a trolley for our shopper as she had no change. The store was clean, well-laid out and had a car park at the rear.
Iceland’s nominal basket of £45.58 for The Grocer 33 included calculations for eight items that the chain does not offer as they appear on our list. But the store had a good range of alternative products in stock.
These included Kingsmill bread at 74p or two for £1.19; Kellogg’s Corn Flakes sold in 750g packs for £1.79; and fresh fusilli pasta in 250g packs for 89p. Free range eggs were only available in medium for 99p and fresh lean mince in 500g packs for £2.99 or two for £4.50. Patterned 2-packs of Bounty kitchen towels were priced £2.39. Fairy washing-up liquid in 500ml was the Citrus variant at 55p down from 89p - Original was sold only in 1-litre bottles at £1.68. Persil came in packs of 18 tablets for £2.39.
G33 items on offer included a 4-can pack of Heinz beans for £1.09, three packs of Kit Kats for £2, and Walkers crisps were on bogof at £1.29.
