A flat Christmas is the most positive outcome UK retailers can expect.
Inflation slowed in October, according to the latest government figures. The Office for National Statistics today said its Retail Price Index measured inflation at 5.4% in October, marking a slight easing from the 5.6% rate seen the month before.
Food sales comfortably outperformed the rest of UK retail over the past three months, figures from the British Retail Consortium show. On a like-for-like basis, food sales between August and October were up by 1.8% over the equivalent term last year – and up 4.9% overall.
