Starbucks has partnered with Danish retailer Bilka to open its first hypermarket.
Jointly owned by the two companies, the Copenhagen store will be branded as a Bilka OneStop and have a Starbucks coffee shop within it.
“This store opening is a testament to our European growth strategy of being where our customers want and expect use to be,” said Arjan Oudejans, Starbucks director of licensed stores EMEA.
Starbucks added that the venture could be a blueprint for its future retail strategy in in the EMEA region if it proved to be a success.
Bilka said Starbucks would provide a “welcoming destination” for customers to meet and enjoy a coffee before or after shopping.
“It perfectly fits within our goal to offer our customers the very best shopping experience,” said Bilka marketing director Thorbjørn Sejer Jensen.
Apart from the store opened this week with Bilka, Starbucks has five stores in Denmark, all of which are located in the Copenhagen Airport.
