Midcounties Co-op is to rebrand the Stars News Shops it bought from Claverley Company to a new fascia called News Express.

The society has opened stores with the new fascia in Wombourne and Dudley in the West Midlands, Bridgnorth in Shropshire, Kidderminster in Worcestershire, and Stow-on-the-Wold in Gloucestershire.

The stores have been given an internal and external makeover for a brighter and fresher feel, with an extended range of services including dry cleaning, hot drinks, improved home news delivery, fresh flowers and extended opening hours on Sundays.

The Wombourne store is one of the first stores in Midcounties' estate to become plastic carrier bag free. Customers will be given free compostable bags and a recycling bin has been placed in-store.

Midcounties Co-op acquired Stars in January 2007. It operated 150 stores and 3,000 staff in the Midlands, the south west and the Home Counties.
