The Soil Association has criticised Tesco, Asda and Morrisons for sourcing organic produce from outside the UK.

Data from the association revealed that sales of organic produce have increased by 11% to £1.2bn.

However, although supermarkets still sell the most organic food, their overall market share has fallen from 81% to 75%.

“We really need to get long-term commitment from supermarkets to buy products grown in the UK,” said Helen Browning, food and farming director for the Soil Association.
