The big four supermarkets are becoming increasingly dominant in the medicines and health and beauty market, data from Verdict Research has found.

Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's and Morrisons collectively hold a 45% share of the £14.9bn market and have increased their share of the market by 12.2 percentage points over the past five years, according to Verdict.

“The grocers are going to take more and more - they are expanding and they are giving over floor space to health and beauty and pharmacies,” said Maureen Hinton, senior retail analyst at Verdict Research.
