The first mobile Spar store will take to the road at the end of August as part of a trial with Hampshire County Council to provide essential services to outlying villages in the region. The roving store will provide chilled, frozen and ambient groceries and a range of post office services to 20 villages with no local stores. The former county library van will be stocked from a store near Basingstoke, driven by the proprietor and manned by a member of staff. Sales and post office transactions will be downloaded via laptop to the store's systems. South east retail controller for Spar wholesaler Capper & Co Bryan Walters said talks were now progressing with Consignia and the council about how to market the service. {{NEWS }}
