Londis has launched a new CTN fascia, just weeks after pulling out of a National Federation of Newsagents initiative on the grounds of conflict of interest (The Grocer, July 22). The new Londis News Extra format is aimed at CTNs between 400 and 800 sq ft which want a slice of the convenience market. Londis pulled out of the NFRN project saying too many NFRN members were already close to a Londis. Londis sales director Terry Bedford said: "To complement the multiples, the focus should be on key categories, including tobacco, confectionery, soft drinks, short-life chilled foods, milk, bread and even introducing quality fruit and vegetables." CTNs which sign up for the package will be given a new store layout and planograms to maximise sales area. Space allocation for newspapers and magazines wil be cut. Bedford said that the extension of trading hours and a licence to sell alcohol is key to the success of the new format. {{NEWS }}
