Little Chef has ended its trials of Mace c-stores at two of its motorway sites. Little Chef commercial manager Jon Shore said: "The c-store did not complement catering, and customers didn't know what to make of the two brands under one roof." Bill Ellis, independent sales director of Palmer & Harvey McLane, said: "The results from the first two trial units could not exactly be termed a raging success. But we learned a lot and we are still working with Little Chef to evaluate the needs of customers of 40 other sites". The project, launched in December, has been shelved by Little Chef in favour of research into US style foodcourts involving Burger King and Harry Ramsden. Tests with an express takeaway service at Little Chef's sister company Granada Motorways may be rolled out to Little Chef if they prove successful. The emphasis is on chilled takeout food, and Little Chef will wait for trials to be completed before it adds to its format again. {{NEWS }}
