The investigation into how a syringe ended up in a carton of Sainsbury’s orange juice this year has so far drawn a blank.
A man, who was arrested in May and released on bail, was due to return to South Wales Police for further questioning this month. However, Detective Inspector Jeff Norman, who is leading the investigation, said the police had decided no further action would be taken.
The syringe, discovered in Bedford on March 31, sparked a 180,000-product recall, despite tests revealing there were no traces of drugs or poisons in the carton (The Grocer, April 9, p8).
The police have made an appeal for new witnesses.
