T&S Stores is to remain a member of the Association of Convenience Stores and its CEO Colin Holmes will join the board of the trade body.

Many members of the ACS had assumed the c-store multiple would leave after its takeover by Tesco at the begining of the year, but ACS chief executive David Rae said it wished to remain an active member.

“T&S trades as a separate company from Tesco and it shares many common concerns with the other ACS members.” Rae denied there had been any opposition from independent retailers: “The board considered their membership and voted unanimously, including independent retailers’ representatives, in their favour.

“The ACS could not claim to represent the entire c-store sector if a company which was eligible for membership, and wanted to join, was not a member.”

T&S will be represented on several ACS committees.
