The number of shoppers buying groceries online will soar in the next five years, Asda has predicted.

Online shopper numbers would double to 1.4 million a week by 2013 as teenagers became adults, said Tony Prescott, multi-channel trading director. “Children have grown up with this technology. It won’t scare consumers of the future,” he said.

A survey by price comparison website shopzilla.co.uk showed that one in five people that currently shop online for electricals, books and CDs rule out buying groceries online.
