Tesco has responded to widespread criticism of its bid for T&S by asserting hundreds of neighbourhoods will benefit if its bid is approved by the OFT.

In The Saturday Essay in this week’s issue of The Grocer magazine, Tesco group director of corporate affairs, Lucy Neville-Rolfe says the move will contribute to a thriving convenience sector.

If the deal is approved, T&S chairman Kevin Threlfall will remain as a business adviser. Chief executive Jim McCarthy will stay to assist the new ceo who will run the One Stop and Day & Nite stores as an independent unit. T&S group retail director Paul Mildenstein will become operations director.
