Parfetts’ battle to deny Tesco additional sales space for a store in Portwood, Cheshire has been won, but only for the time being.
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council has rejected Tesco’s restrospective application to extend the 119,500 sq ft store.
Tesco submitted the request when it became apparent that it had exceeded an initial planning request by 18,000 sq ft.
Parfetts wrote to Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council in February objecting to the move. The wholesaler claimed the store would have a negative effect on local retailers, from
whom it gathered support for its lobbying. But Tesco is now being allowed to submit a new application from scratch.
“This is extremely annoying,” said Steve Parfett, MD of Parfetts. “It’s been 10 months since the store has been open without full planning permission.”
