Tesco is today sending out £67m worth of February’s Clubcard vouchers to customers three months early, in time for Christmas.

The retailer said its awarding of double points – sparking a points ‘war’ between the multiples after its August launch – meant customers have earned vouchers twice as fast as they were last year.

This year it has returned more than £529m in cash-equivalent vouchers to Clubcard holders.

“This seasonal surprise is to help customers at a time when we know they will appreciate it most,” said Tesco commercial director Richard Brasher.

“We know that this year mums are taking tight control of family budgets and they are looking for treats, not extravagance. Our customers can choose to use their vouchers for Christmas extras or hold onto them until the rest of their February statement - the choice is theirs.”
