Tesco is expected to come under fire from shareholders at its annual general meeting to be held in London this morning.

Charity War on Want has tabled a resolution calling for independent audits of its suppliers in the developing world, according to reports in the Independent.

Actress Emma Thompson has also accused Tesco of subjecting its South African fruit pickers to “appalling” pay and conditions, add reports in the Daily Telegraph. Campaign charity Action Aid is expected to raise the issue at today's meeting.

Earlier this week, The Association of British Insurers issued an “amber top” on Tesco's plans to award Tesco CEO Sir Terry Leahy a bonus of up to 2.5m shares depending on the success of its US venture Fresh & Easy, while lobby group Pirc is urged shareholders to oppose the company's “excessive remuneration report".
