Tesco Ireland was bracing itself for strikes across all 76 stores yesterday (Friday) as The Grocer went to press. Talks at the Labour Court between Mandate and Siptu trade unions and Tesco Ireland broke down in the early hours of Thursday morning. "Following last night's talks, Tesco Ireland regrets that industrial action now looks unavoidable," said the company. All the stores, it says, will close. "The demands made by the unions in negotiations are unreasonable, while their disregard for established industrial relations procedures is a serious concern," a company statement said on Thursday. "We have been reasonable throughout this dispute and believe the strike action is totally unwarranted." Mandate said: "The court heard submissions from the two parties. The lie of the land is that there were no substantial changes." {{NEWS }}
