Tesco is putting a toe in the water to test the American craze for manicures on the run. It has teamed up with beauty and nail care experts Sally Hansen to open a nail bar in its new Homeplus store in Bromborough, near Liverpool.

Busy shoppers will be able to whiz in and out in five minutes for a £5 manicure - no appointments will be necessary.

The aim of the new service was to offer an innovative, pampering service at a great Tesco price, said Alex Holt, category manager at Tesco.

"If it proves popular with our customers we may well take the decision to roll this out into further stores in the future."

The trend for acrylic extensions and abstract designs is big business in America, where nail bars rake in more than £44bn. The UK market is estimated to be worth about £800m.
