Tesco said that Richard Brasher is to become commercial trading director at the retailer to succeed the long-serving John Gildersleeve who retires in March.

Brasher is currently head of Tesco’s non-food commercial activities.

Full details of the impending changes will be covered in this Saturday’s issue of The Grocer magazine.

Further board changes will see logistics and IT director Philip Clarke become responsible for international operations at the end of December, retaining his group responsibilities for IT.

David Reid will become non-executive chairman at the beginning of April.

Meanwhile, Lucy Neville-Rolfe will succeed Rowley Ager, who also retires next March, as company secretary and will retain her existing responsibilities for corporate affairs.
