Tesco is ramping up its non food offer with the launch of an upmarket electricals range to entice big budget shoppers to its web site, while further evidence that it could be close to launching its home shopping catalogue is emerging.
The ‘Platinum’ lines, which are made up of top name brands Sony, Philips and Bush, include 23-inch LCD televisions for £799.99 and wireless hi-fi systems for £599.99.
A spokesman said it was vital that Tesco had all the price points covered this Christmas. “Platinum is offering shoppers a more exclusive, upmarket range and it makes shopping online as easy as possible.”
In addition, it is offering free home delivery on all electricals.
Meanwhile, Tesco has launched a recruitment programme for a new publishing team to “help launch a bold and exciting new venture”.
A spokesman refused to confirm that the new staff would be working on a home shopping catalogue, adding that Tesco considered all its in-house publications to be “bold and exciting”.
