Tesco is to fight a decision by North Norfolk District Council to reject a controversial planning application to build a store in Sheringham.

Councillors voted unanimously against plans for a 16,000 sq ft outlet last week, despite recommendations from planning officers to approve the development.

Tesco will now pursue an outstanding appeal that was lodged in 2003 after the council failed to make a decision on an original application for the Sheringham store within the required legal time frame.

The chain said it had originally agreed to halt that appeal when the council invited it to submit the now-rejected second application.
