Tesco has announced that it will not be pursuing a traffic light labelling system for food products.

The retailer said that its own pilot scheme had shown that consumers were often confused by an amber light how traffic lights related to recommended daily intake.

Tesco will go ahead with its own nutritional signposting formula. This will involve putting the content of salt, sugar, saturated fat and calories in grams and how this relates to the recommended daily intake on its own-label products.

As revealed in The Grocer this week, Tesco is to bring this information from the back to the front of its packaging.
