Total UK sales rose 8% during the period, Tesco said, with group sales up 12.8%.
Non-food sales performed well with good market share across most categories including clothing, entertainment and books, while sales in its internet businesses Tesco.com and Tesco Direct rose 24%.
In its international business, sales rose 26.9%, boosted by strong growth in Europe and Asia.
Tesco did not provide sales figures for its US convenience format Fresh & Easy, but said the early customer response had been “very encouraging”. It now has 28 stores trading in Southern California, Las Vegas and Phoenix.
