In a move to push growth in non food, Tesco has signed up with e-commerce specialist Retek to develop its global sourcing activities using a sophisticated new trade management software system. Retek's European marketing director Cecile Dorvault said the system will increase efficiencies throughout the supply chain, allowing Tesco's buyers to get in touch with global suppliers and negotiate the best deals, with greater transparency of costs. The technology will enable Tesco to manage the hugely complex costing, customs formalities, letters of credit and transportation functions necessary for importing goods sourced abroad using a single tool. The trading system should be up and running in the autumn, said Dorvault, and Tesco will probably not have to install new hardware to cope with Retek's software. {{NEWS }}
