The report, published yesterday, showed that Sir Terry Leahy, Tesco’s chief executive, received a bonus of more than £2m after the group became the first retailer to record profits of over £2bn.
Leahy received a £2.08m bonus in cash and shares, together with a salary of £1.04m, increasing his total pay by 7% to £3.19m.
The pay-out places Leahy just outside the top 10 paid directors of listed companies.
Tesco’s top five executives took home a pay-out between them of £8.54m.
And approximately 150,000 Tesco staff shared a £169m windfall through Tesco’s profit share and Save As You Earn schemes.
