Tesco is set to move its dotcom chief executive John Browett to a new post of operations director.

The new role will focus on developing Tesco’s core supermarket activities in the UK.

An industry insider told The Financial Times: “John’s new job is to make sure that the business is prepared for the next 10 years.”

Browett has been in charge of Tesco.com since April 2000 and will be succeeded by Laura Wade-Gery who is currently group strategy director.

Tesco reshuffled its main board in September, when Richard Brasher took over from John Gildersleeve as commercial and trading director.
